Mounting evidence continues to show that smart eating helps stave off breast cancer.
- Opt for monounsaturated fats. New research based on European studies shows that women who consume unblended, unprocessed extra virgin olive oils have reduced breast cancer rates.
- Get a regular dose of tofu. Plant estrogens (called phytoestrogens) in soy products like tofu and soy milk may lower your risk by blocking circulation of natural estrogen. Breast cancer researcher Gertraud Maskarinec, M.D., Ph.D., of the University of Hawaii, notes that as little as half a cup of tofu a day may help.
